That little girl is me! I am sitting on my great-grandmother's lap.
My mother is on the right. And on the left, is grandmother Mary who I fondly called "Baba".

This website is dedicated to my Baba Mary. She suffered from dementia.
Ten Decades - Our Mary
Slowly, this decade of Mary’s life is lost to the disease. Soon Mary can no longer recognize her children. However, she senses that they belong to her. It is a time of adjustment for all.
In spite of this, a new Mary emerges. Mary becomes the nurses’ favorite patient. She laughs at the kitty batting the plant leaves on the window seal. She smiles wider as you smile at her. And she delights in accomplishing small chores, like folding towels. She knows that she is safe and that she is loved. |
